Accessibility Statement

We believe everyone should be able to read, watch and listen to our journalism. We are committed to making our websites usable by as many people as possible, including people who use screen readers, keyboard navigation, magnification or other assistive technology.

Our standard

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at Level AA, the widely used international standard for accessible websites. We build and test our sites with that standard in mind, and we treat accessibility problems as bugs to be fixed.

What we do

  • Clear structure. Pages use headings, landmarks and labels so assistive technology can move through them.
  • Keyboard access. Links, menus and forms work with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator.
  • Readable text. Text can be enlarged without breaking the page, and we choose colors with sufficient contrast.
  • Less motion. We respect your device’s reduced-motion setting.
  • Images and media. We write alternative text for meaningful images and work to provide captions or transcripts for video and audio.
  • Audio articles. Many stories offer an audio version, created with AI tools and reviewed as described in our AI policy.
  • Checks before publishing. Our publishing tools flag common problems, such as missing image descriptions or skipped headings, before a story goes live.

Where we may fall short

  • Older stories in our archive may not meet current standards.
  • Some content comes from third parties, such as embedded social posts, charts, maps, documents and advertisements, and we can’t always control how accessible it is. Where we can, we offer a text alternative or a link to the original.
  • PDFs and scanned records we publish as part of our reporting may not be fully accessible.

Tell us about a problem

If you have trouble using any part of our site, or need a story in a different format, email us at accessibility@deepsouthtoday.org. Tell us the page address and what went wrong. We’ll respond as soon as possible and fix the problem or get you the information another way.

This statement will evolve
